[Krunker] PC World has their first look at the new Toshiba Libretto U100 mini notebook. The U100 includes a 7.2 inch LCD screen, 1280 x 768 resolutions, Ethernet support, a modem, FireWire support, Fingerprint security, 802.11b/g support, Bluetooth support and a Docking port. PC World got their hands on a pre-release version of the $1,999 box, and found it “small in everything except power and performance.” One gripe was the keyboard, which — surprise, surprise — was a little cramped.

Batterylife was under 2-1/2 hours, also something of a disappointment (at least to us), but PC World rates it — keyboard aside— a “worthy and powerful portable PC.” Of course, despite all the love, it’ll probably tank in the marketplace; thestreets are littered with the shells of similar mini-PCs that PDA buyers found too big (and expensive) and notebookcustomers considered underpowered (and expensive). The libretto U100, Toshibas new ultralight laptop - Engadget ...: It’s been on vacation for the past three years, but Toshiba’s bringing back their much-loved line of ultralight libretto laptops. They’re claiming that they brought back the libretto to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the introduction of their very first laptop, too bad the U100, the first model in the revived line, looks a bit like it was inspired by boxy mid-Eighties laptop design. Snotty aesthetic concerns aside, they do manage to squeeze a lot into the U100, which weighs 2.16 pounds and has a 1.2GHz Pentium M processor, 7.6-inch widescreen LCD with a resolution of 1280 x 768, built-in 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, 512MB of RAM, and a 60GB hard drive. Retail price: $1,999 (pictured at right with its optional dock).
