[Technik] Blogging the Stanford / Accel Network Technology Symposium: .Greg got on a roll, dissed a long-tail new mobi media company emerging, dissed multiplayer games, and didn't really need a faster better network.Q&A ended with an MIT prof challenging the Stanford Prof on power consumptionover UWB vs. WiFi vs.WiMAX. What this had to do about mobi media wascompletely lost, but the right coast prof was so animated he evenmoved seats to get his killer question in. Ah, the risks inherent in anacademically-sponsored conference.
[Scobles Link Blog] PigPog Blog - Tablet PC - After Two Weeks (from: PubSub: TabletPC): I use it as a laptop more than as a slate, but fortunately, it works very nicely as both. The only real downside I’ve found so far is that it is a bit on the heavy side for using as a slate. If you really want to be comfortable sitting reading in bed with a slate-form tablet, you might be better off with the tiny HP models where the keyboard can be completely removed.
[Classical Values] Hurried reflections: He wasn't so much interested in hearing what others said, because he was constantly interrupting speakers to defend his point-of-view. Was this deliberate baiting for the sake of the session? Only Dave knows that for sure. When he stated as a matter of fact that the economy is in deep trouble, the conservative writers in the crowd chuckled, and this infuriated him.
[Intellectual Property Watch] WIPO Development Seminar Informs But Impact Unclear: Horacio Gutierrez, associate general counsel at the Microsoft Europe, Middle East and Africa division based in Paris, took a positive tone in discussing open-source software, from which he said the software maker has “learned a tremendous amount” about what its users want. But he pointed out that even open source products depend on licenses. Gutierrez said open-source software is a phenomenon that will continue in the future, and in what he called a “move to the middle”, said Microsoft has introduced shared source programs and recognizes the need for training, as well as appropriate models for software delivery and financing mechanisms.

The USB hub connects (among other things) to my external Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer Wireless. There’s also my new Philips speakers on the desk for when I want a bit more noise from the machine, and my GuitarPort for when I want to make noises myself (which then feeds back out through the Philips speakers).

[Pigpog.com] PigPog Blog » Computers: My mail is still in Outlook, and I’m still using pretty much the same apps as before other than that. Notepad++ for text editing and HTML, FileZilla for FTP, eReader for reading books. I’m a recent convert to Paint.NET for image editing - less powerful than The GIMP, but it’s fast and friendly - neither of which really apply to The GIMP. All I usually want to do with images is crop, resize, adjust levels and sharpen, then output as a JPEG - Paint.NET does all this pretty well, and it will have done it all before The GIMP has finished starting up.
