Why I Ditched My Tablet PC
[Working Smart] Several people have posted comments, asking why I ditched my Tablet PC a couple of months ago. They were particularly interested since last June I purchased a tablet and enthusiastically endorsed it. In addition to the comments, several people emailed me about my experience. So, I have decided to address the issue publicly and put it to rest. First, I am never fully satisfied with my current tools, whatever they are. I have a high need for variety and thrive on change. Initially, I tend to be enthusiastic and hopeful. Then the gadget loses its fascination and I resume my quest for “the holy technology grail.” So, you have to keep this in mind when you read my blog. Consider yourself warned. Second, the tablet technology was more conspicuous that I had hoped. I am basically an introvert. (I know, that is hard for some people to believe. However, I have the psych tests to prove it!) I don't like a lot of attention. Every time I pulled out my tablet in a meeting, the new people in the...

For us, technology is just a tool. We have no problem tryingnew technologies in order to find out what does and what does not workfor us.
[Life on the Wicked Stage] And In This Corner... Tablet PC: I'm Ditiching It-I'm Buying It: I've been following Eric Mack's postings on his quest for a Tablet PC here on this blog as have others. The other day, Rob Bushway ignited a small firestorm of discussion on TabletPCBuzz by posting a blog entry from Michael Hyatt about why he ditched his Tablet PC for a Mac.
[Life on the Wicked Stage] Michael Hyatt: Why I Ditched My Tablet PC: Picked this up from Rob Bushway's Blog and his post on TabletPCBuzz. Michael Hyatt's journey away from the Tablet PC to Apple is also quoted in Eric Mack's post about Tablet PC's being too disruptive. Take a good look at what Hyatt has to say in his blog post and also Eric's comment that he wishes that it wasn't so hard to set things up for some of his clients.
Tablet PC Buzz.com - Forum: The PC Vs Mac has been belabored elsewhere so I'd like to comment on his observation that using a tablet is not inconspicuous. My experience has been mixed-- if I'm among people who I know but have not seen a Tablet pc before then using one is most definitely not inconspicuous. I end up with a longer meeting them I'd planned since I have to spend 10 minutes demonstrating the features. However if I'm at a wi-fi hotspot at some coffee shop then it's as conspicuous as using any laptop.

Rob Bushway - Tablet PC MVP: Eric Mack On-Line - www ...: What's interesting, is that I never intended to have this blog be my main blog -- it just happened that before I could launch my other blogs, this site got picked up Scobelized, and .I know that some folks may only read the tech stuff, or the robotics stuff, or other sections. That's OK. For those who want, it's possible to get to know a little more about Eric Mack, the person, rather than Eric Mack, the guy who wrote a blog post.
Working Smart: Why I Bought a TabletPC: Eye contact: Related to the above point, and for the same reasons, many users have reported that it is much easier to maintain periodic and consistent eye contact with others in a meeting when using a Tablet PC versus using a laptop. This has a dramatic affect on the perception of others that you are engaged and personable. Lack of eye contact also limits your ability to read body language of others, adding to your distance from the meeting (pp.
Working Smart: I have just launched a new blog, primarily intended for Thomas Nelson employees. It is called From Where I Sit. I have subtitled it, “Musings on the world of publishing.” While it is primarily intended for my fellow-employees, I think it will also be of interest to anyone interested in what goes on inside a real live publishing company. I also have included a list of other Thomas Nelson employee bloggers in the left-hand sidebar of the blog.
